I Run Because I Can !

Running is something that comes naturally to me. I used to run much while I was in school and while studying as an undergrad. If not dedicated running, playing football at the position of winger made sure that I got my miles every single day. The chores of a sedentary lifestyle, being stuck on a "desk job" for 3 years after college, and mindless partying accompanied by a beer belly made me lose my appetite for running. Weight is always a cheater! I regained my lost love for running when back for postgrad, especially during the first 2 years of course-work, when I resumed playing football (in the exact same position). However, when my friends graduated while I just finished coursework, and entered the research phase of PhD, running again took a hitting. It was only 2-3 months ago that I started beginning to workout (for fitness more than muscle buildup). I used to go 3 days a week to the gym spending 2 hours on each visit, out of which 1 hour was reserved for cardio. But that really didn't help me reduce my tummy. Arvind, the instructor, then advised me to pick up running for a while. I started running on 9/11. Its been 17 days and I've run about 110 km till date. I use Nike Plus app to keep track of my progress, recording data and working on new milestones. Recently, 2 pals, Mayank and Shirley also started running with me. Group running is an amazing thing. If you are a little down, your chums will keep you motivated and  give that extra push that gets you going. Runners Inc. is what we will be known by. I think its a good start to have a running culture within interested individuals in IIML. Sometimes when you stretch yourself a little bit more, you get what they call 'a Runner's High', thanks to all that endorphin release, and you loose track of pain. Like what the famous 'Frutarian Runner - Michael Arnstein' says, "First you run with your body, and when it gives up, you run with your mind, and when your mind shuts down, you run with your heart!" Yes, We Run! Because We Can!
